Law School Advancement Officer

Law School Advancement Officer

General Summary of Position:



Reporting to the Associate Dean for Advancement & Strategy, the Major Gift Officer will secure private funds for the Law School by managing a portfolio of approximately 150 alumni and friends of the Law School. He/she will serve as an active participant of a team devoted to development of external contacts with donor prospects, aimed at securing significant gifts to further the mission of St. John's Law School.

Responsibilities:


  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects/suspects.
  • Develop strategies for the identification, validation, cultivation, engagement, solicitation and stewardship of the portfolio
  • Determine donor interest and direct them toward School / Program / Center priorities. Develop and execute an individualized plan for each
  • Advise faculty to create suitable giving opportunities and prepare major gift/annual gift proposals for University priorities.
  • Manage prospects through 12 to 15 engagement (face-to-face) meetings per month, 10 cultivation's per prospect per cultivation's per prospect per year.
  • Make 20 to 25 solicitations per year and close IO to 15 new major gifts annually.
  • Achieve target goals that include both total dollars raised and activities.
  • Contribute to the development of a strong prospect pipeline through identification, validation and cultivation efforts.
  • Work with other members of the Development and Alumni Relations team to appropriately engage key prospects in advancement activities.
  • Participate as an active member of the prospect management process, including Moves Management meetings in developing strategies for all major gifts prospects.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Baccalaureate or higher degree
  • 5 years experience in fundraising or a related field.
  • Demonstrated skill to work within a complex environment with strong capabilities in planning, organizing and managing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers in the Institutional Advancement area and with internal partners and external volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to travel, largely on a regional basis. Frequent evening work will be necessary.
