Assistant Prof in Computational Design & Analysis Methods

Position Summary:
VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE AND STATE UNIVERSITY (Virginia Tech), DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in MECHANICAL DESIGN AND ANALYSIS METHODS . We are seeking applicants having strong interdisciplinary interests across all areas of design methodology, design optimization, and multi-scale modeling. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise that integrate strongly with an interdisciplinary team of faculty engaged at the intersection of advanced design, manufacturing, and materials research. Thus, we seek candidates with expertise in multidisciplinary design analysis, synthesis, and optimization; design automation; design for manufacturing; and design theory and methodology.

The successful candidates will be responsible for mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and developing an internationally recognized research program. We are looking to hire an outstanding candidate who can also contribute to Virginia Tech's transdisciplinary Destination Areas (particularly to Intelligent Infrastructure and Human Centered Communities-IIHCC DA), which involve faculty and departments across many colleges of the university. While faculty remain in their home department, their research and academic activities contribute to the advancement of the VT's Destination Areas in addition to their own department/discipline. Required Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline. Qualified candidates having university/industrial/federal laboratory experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
