Grants Coordinator

Position Summary:
Grants Coordinator will provide financial services and grant administration for externally and internally funded grants for the Chemistry Department. This position will work with faculty, the Assistant Chair for Research and the Office of Sponsored Programs by providing assistance and oversight with policies and procedures concerning sponsored research. This position is required to manage multiple time-sensitive issues, exercise judgment with defined policies and procedures, and determine appropriate action required in order to bring grants to fulfillment. Tasks may include but are not limited to: payroll administration; monitoring research project budgets to ensure grant funds are spent appropriately and timely; analyzing data and communicating results to faculty members; reconciling funds; and preparing financial analyses and reports in Excel using query tools. This position is also responsible for completion and submission of effort reports (PARs).

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related field or an equivalent level of training and/or experience.
-Demonstrated financial and/or administrative experience in support of research.
-Experience independently providing financial support such as budget planning, accounting procedures and fiscal management tasks.
-Familiarity with contract and grant award and/or administration regulations.
-Experience generating documents and reports using various database and spreadsheet software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and financial database and warehouse systems.
-Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with Banner Finance, HokieMart, and VT Foundation Funds.
-Knowledge of proposal submittal processes in a research environment.
-Knowledge of state, federal, sponsor and university regulations and procedures related to grants management activity.
-Preference given to those with knowledge of operations and functions of Virginia Tech's Office of Sponsored Programs
