Position Summary:
The Department of Chemistry invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track or tenured faculty position in synthetic polymer chemistry with an intended start date of fall 2019. Candidates with an emphasis in any area of modern polymer synthesis are encouraged to apply. Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with the appointee's experience.
The successful candidate must establish or have established an independent, innovative, and internationally recognized research program and be an effective teacher in graduate and undergraduate courses. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment. For more senior applicants, an outstanding reputation in the field is a prime requirement.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary research, curriculum, and/or outreach initiatives with other university faculty working in the Economical and Sustainable Materials Strategic Growth Area. Work in this area embraces a focus on transdisciplinary approaches to addressing critical scientific materials challenges related to health, energy, environment, and resilient infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teaching and/or research in areas that align with Virginia Tech's university-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on economical and sustainable materials is preferred.
