Job Purpose
Serve as the Database Administrator (DBA) in Information Technology Services' (ITS) Enterprise Application Services (EAS) unit, maintaining and deploying Oracle and SQL Server updates, database/application security, database monitoring, defining and maintaining backup and recovery strategies, database/application trouble-shooting, upgrading/patching database/applications, database cloning, evaluating and advising on emerging database technologies, and resolving end-user issues of current enterprise resource planning (ERP) system plus add-on third party applications. The position will work with developers to define and maintain an Oracle-Banner environment for application development and testing.

Essential Functions
Support and maintain the University's Oracle and SQL Server databases. Develop plans for University database capacity growth and work with data stewards to determine enterprise strategic database needs. Maintain data standards. Coordinate the implementation of database software. Review and implement vendor database security releases. Keep abreast of evolving database security best practices and apply them locally. Install/upgrade and support existing and required new instances, including various methods of redundancy clustering, log shipping, mirroring, etc. Create and maintenance of agent jobs to migrate data to/from Oracle and SQL Server instances as well as performing maintenance routines including backups and recovery/history retention/history cleanup/index defragmentation/etc. Coordinate, supervise, and support projects that span multiple technologies related to the evolving decisions and user services support environment (data warehousing, metadata repository, access management tools, database servers, data migration tools, etc. Assist users to determine database requirements. Define and develop project plans and detailed specifications. Design and program database applications and queries. Analyze, troubleshoot, and debug technical hurdles when encountered. Provide technical support and guidance to users, systems analysts, systems administrators. Provide project status report.

Minimum Qualifications
One of the following combinations of education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and five (5) years of successful, full-time employment as a database administrator, maintaining large scale, enterprise wide relational or object-oriented database(s), OR
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field and seven (7) years of successful, full-time employment as a database administrator, maintaining large scale, enterprise wide relational or object-oriented database(s), OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years of successful, full-time employment as a database administrator, maintaining large scale, enterprise wide relational or object-oriented database(s).
Ability to work/be on call outside normal hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) to support scheduled changes to databases/applications after hours. Ability to effectively work in a team environment with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Work experience with Ellucian Banner ERP application installation and maintenance. Knowledge of Tomcat-as related to TSM, Degree Works, eProcurement, Ellucian Ethos Identity and various other Banner 9 app servers. Work experience with Banner Data Defense, Ellucian Ethos Identity or general knowledge of single sign on technology. Configuring Oracle database authentication via enterprise and global user authentication using LDAPS. Use of Oracle Transparent Data Encryption, data masking and redaction, fine-grained data access, database backup and cloning. Work experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and PL/SQL in an Oracle environment. Knowledge or experience with Oracle products/tools, e.g., WebLogic, Data Guard, Enterprise Manager. Web development skills using Java, JavaScript, Java Beans, C, Ajax, .net, VB, or HTML. Previous skills/experience in data validation, before/after transfers, migrations, clones, DR testing and documentation. Experience in a higher education computing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Oracle Database Certification (OCP), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA).

Work Hours
Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work outside normal hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) to support scheduled changes and be on call after hours.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience; Administrative Pay Grade AD47.
