Job Purpose
Provide a creative, residential environment for emerging professional artists and to broaden student and faculty awareness of new approaches and techniques. Artists in residence play an important role in managing the exhibitions program.

Essential Functions
Responsible for exhibition spaces including installing and closing of exhibits. Corresponds with artists and coordinates on all aspects of the exhibition process including: shipment, reports, physical arrangement, lighting, gallery repairs, scheduling of photo shoots, press releases and grant proposals. Assist the gallery manager in ordering and maintaining supplies. Assist the sales gallery with sales throughout the year especially during Celebration and the Holiday Festival, which are the Craft Center's annual events. The AIR may have the opportunity to teach workshops and academic classes in their specific medium or foundations and conduct outreach demonstrations. The AIR must produce a significant body of studio work while showing a high level of technical expertise and aesthetic merit. In consultation with the Director, expectations of the AIR's studio work will be reviewed after arrival.

Minimum Qualifications
BFA degree. Selection will consider the candidate's potential artistic and professional growth within the residency, exhibition or curatorial experience, and potential for instructional support.

Preferred Qualifications
MFA or equivalent professional experience.

Work Hours
The AIR will work 20 hours per week in exhibitions. One year appointment, September 1, 2018-August 31, 2019. The resident may be invited back for one additional year at the request of the Craft Center for a possible total of two years as an AIR.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary A stipend of $1620.00 annually is provided, which is paid in monthly increments of $135 by direct deposit. This is a part-time grant funded position; its continuation is contingent upon future funding.
Benefits Information
Residence in Craft Center housing is a required condition of employment. Single occupancy bedroom with private bath (whether married or single, cooking and lounge facilities are shared with other residents), individual studio space and 24 hour studio access are provided. A stipend of $1620.00 annually is provided, which is paid in monthly increments of $135 via direct deposit. Benefits include the accumulation of annual and sick leave on a prorated basis equal to the percentage of employment, and thirteen (13) pro-rated University holidays. Other benefits include pro-rated retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Also, opportunities for additional employment through workshop and outreach programs may be available.
