Job Purpose
Jointly appointed as Regional Director of Development (RDD) and Associate Athletics Director (AAD) for Development, this position's singular focus shall be on securing and increasing private gift support, principally to Athletics, but the RDD/AAD must be able to articulate compellingly the case for support for the University and its academic units as well. The position reports to the Vice President for University Advancement, with a dotted line of accountability to the Athletics Director.

Essential Functions
Understanding and ability to articulate the significant value of Athletics and student-athlete experience at the University level. Ability to manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors at varying stages of relationship vis- -vis Athletics and/or the University. Ability to serve as an effective, thoughtful philanthropic partner who inspires donors and prospective donors to invest in Athletics and the University, executing appropriate strategies at every level of engagement. Interest in and capacity to build and maintain meaningful relationships with University Advancement and Athletics and internal / external partners. Confidence and intestinal fortitude to negotiate objections and strive to find creative, viable ways forward for donors/prospective donors who may have little or no relationship with the Athletics or the University. Maintain currency as a director of development through professional development and ongoing facility with the latest problems, issues, and trends in intercollegiate athletics and higher education. Willingness to travel extensively to cover the assigned region and engage with both former student-athletes and academic prospects. Assume other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Five years of professional fundraising experience in either a non-profit or higher education setting. Exceptional communication skills, orally and in writing, appealing to diverse audiences with varying expectations. Strong relationship-building skills, a demonstrated record of gift closure, and commitment to follow up. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances associated with an organization that is on the move. Commitment to travel extensively, as this position requires travel in Tennessee and within an assigned region that is subject to change.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in business administration, public administration, sports management, or related field. Fundraising experience in intercollegiate athletics, higher education and/or involvement in major capital campaign. Knowledge of annual giving in an Athletics context, including specific ideas / strategies for building and sustaining annual support for Athletics. Experience in engaging volunteer leaders in meaningful activity.

Work Hours
Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Additional hours if/when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience; Administrative Pay Grade AD47.
