Public Services and Research Supervisor

Coordinating reference, research and consultation activities for the department, including supervising the Libraries' Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room; hiring and supervising student assistants, interns and volunteers; assisting with instruction services, and providing in-depth research consultations for internal, national, and international patrons. Coordinating the Oral History Program for the Libraries. Participating in special collections maintenance, acquisition, and processing activities. Participating in departmental and Libraries-wide planning, assessment, and engagement activities.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective customer service skills. Demonstrated knowledge of effective analytical, research, and consultation techniques. Working knowledge of archival theory and best practices. Working knowledge of project management and evaluation methods. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in word processing, spreadsheet applications and Internet searching. Demonstrated ability to follow and interpret complex policies and procedures in the execution of detail-oriented work. Ability to work independently and with others, in teams and on committees. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to deal with people utilizing tact, discretion and diplomacy. Ability to assist diverse library users including staff, faculty, administrators and the general public. Ability to perform detailed work successfully.

Education or training

Level and type of experience
Considerable experience with providing reference and research services in a library and/or archives setting. Some experience with library/archival technology applications.

Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Strong customer service skills. Library and/or archives supervisory experience.
Some experience processing archival and manuscript collections. Some experience supporting oral history programs.
Master's degree in Library Science, Archives, Public History or other related Humanities subject area. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Conditions of Employment
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary is commensurate with education and experience and begins at $ - 33,598
