Human Resources Associate

As a member of a collaborative HR team, the Human Resources Associate is responsible for the recruitment of non-teaching employees and the administration of Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Human Resources policies and programs, in compliance with federal and state laws and in support of the Colleges' mission. This position reports to the Vice President for Human Resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers the Colleges’ staff employee recruitment and selection program. Supports supervisors with the position requisition process and composition of job descriptions. Manages position advertisements and postings for all approved positions. Manages advertisement and recruitment expenses.
  • Administers the Colleges' background screening and motor vehicle screening processes.
  • Conducts periodic wage and salary surveys, both locally and industry-wide in order to assist in wage recommendation for new hires, promotion and/or market adjustments.
  • Assists in maintaining the department's employment webpage and applicant database, Interfolio.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of staff and management training and performance evaluations programs.
  • Conducts employment orientations and benefits onboarding sessions for new faculty and staff.
  • Seeks creative and innovative approaches to recruiting a highly qualified and committed staff workforce. Ensures that the institutional commitment to a diverse community is incorporated into recruitment plans.
  • Completes employment and payroll verifications.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of federal, state, and the Colleges' employment policies/laws and programs for faculty, administrative staff, and hourly employees.
  • Prepare reports for the Vice President and the Board of Trustees, as requested, i.e. quarterly turnover reports.
  • Manages the exit interview process and data analysis in an effort to increase employee retention and recommends proactive measures to address areas of concern.
  • Develops collegial, effective and professional working relationships with administrators, faculty and staff. Fosters a culture of professionalism and service orientation.
  • Assists with the HR email inbox, responds to incoming inquiries and questions and facilitate timely responses. Responds to internal inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, vacation, policy interpretation and other basic HR inquiries.
  • Supports the Human Resources team during audits, open enrollment, employment recognition and other related events.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, organizational psychology, organizational sociology, or related field.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional human resources related experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Ability to make recommendations that effectively resolve problems by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices and policies.
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills, treats others with respect and consideration.
  • Reacts well under pressure and demonstrates effective organizational skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills including ability to edit and deliver quality work with clear and efficient composition.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal campus office hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year and a possible shortened work week during the scheduled summer hours time period.
