Program Manager - International Relations, School of Arts and Sciences

The International Relations (IR) Program in the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University administers the IR major, an interdisciplinary undergraduate course of study in international affairs. The IR Program draws on the expertise of approximately 100 core faculty members from 21 departments and programs across the university. The major is one of the largest in the School of Arts, Sciences and Engineering, and the reputation of the program attracts exceptional applicants to Tufts from around the world. Founded in 1977, the IR Program at Tufts began as--and has remained--a model for the interdisciplinary study of the international affairs from historical, cultural, political, and economic perspectives. It promotes the importance of foreign languages, research methodologies, and the development of independent research projects, which often culminate in faculty-student research partnerships and senior honors theses. The staff of the IR Program partners with faculty and administrators to ensure the rigor of the major. It also promotes student participation and leadership in Program initiatives by encouraging collaboration between staff and students in planning and organizing academic community-building events, such as faculty panels for the discussion of current international events, academic conferences, career events featuring program alumni, and opportunities for lifelong learning. The staff of the IR Program routinely assesses the curriculum, programming, policies and procedures to ensure growth and improvement.

Provides advanced, specialized knowledge to develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate the International Relations Program in collaboration with Director. Develops policies, goals and strategies; designs data management and reporting systems; oversees and analyzes program budget, operations, and human resources; identifies and writes grant proposals for continued or new funding; develops and oversees marketing, advertising and external relations. Oversees and manages support staff. Provides advising and counseling to students. Designs and delivers workshops and talks and conducts research and writes reports and results. Manages hiring, training and evaluation of staff.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Master s degree in related discipline and 5-8 years of relevant professional experience in an academic institution or non-profit organization OR Bachelor s 10 years of experience in international relations within a university or an NGO.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in identifying and applying for grants preferred; or strong demonstrated background in the discipline of international relations.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

Position demands attendance at some weekend and evening events.
