Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesia

The Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Anesthesia in the Academic Clinician associated faculty track. The successful candidate will have clinical responsibility for patient care and related teaching, including intern/resident training. Responsibilities within the hospital typically include elective and emergency daytime practice, teaching rounds, and back up coverage of residents, interns, and anesthesia nurses for emergency after-hours duty. Time would be also devoted to scholarly activities including research projects, extramural invited lectures, and continuing education. As a citizen of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, the successful candidate may be expected to participate in some administrative or committee work as well as serve as a resource to programs such as Development, Communications, Customer Service and Community Outreach in promoting the capabilities and accomplishments of PennVet.
The Anesthesia program at Penn is a service consisting of three Board Certified Anesthesiologists ( ACVAA ), two anesthesia residents and one anesthesia intern. The technical staff includes thirteen full time anesthesia technicians of which six are anesthesia certified.
The Matthew J. Ryan Small Animal Hospital is situated on Penn's vibrant main campus in Philadelphia, a beautiful historic city with excellent dining, museums, concerts, sports and other cultural events. The hospital is a dynamic environment with additional board-certified faculty in Surgery, Radiology, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Dentistry, and many other specialties. It has recently opened a state of the art minimally invasive operating suite designed to perform advanced interventional and minimally invasive surgical procedures. The surgical facilities are complemented by our diagnostic imaging equipment ( MRI , CT, ultrasound, and stationary fluoroscopy), state-of-the-art intensive care unit, hemodialysis unit, interventional radiology service, and veterinary clinical investigations center (http://pennvcic.org).
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent. A Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
