Occupational Safety and Health Compliance Officer

Position Summary:
The Occupational Safety and Health Compliance Officer reports to the Asst Dir for Occupational Health Services and will perform comprehensive safety and health inspections, surveys, audits, monitoring and evaluations to determine compliance with EHS programs and OSHA regulations, including those that are very complex in nature, and where extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and hazard controls is necessary to make judgement calls on research and development applications, which do not fall into the traditional implementation. Handles most difficult assignments. Uses highly complex criteria, data collection, and interviewing techniques. Interprets and applies regulatory requirements, and provides guidance to staff. Interviews, observes and investigates workplaces for hazard identification, evaluation of risk, and recommendations on engineering and administrative controls, and personal protective equipment. Documents findings and effectively communicates corrective and preventative measures to various levels of the campus community. Acts as subject matter expert to campus community for assigned program areas.
Coordinates, schedules and performs industrial hygiene-related inspections and monitoring as needed or required to determine compliance with standards and OSHA regulations. Identifies clients, determines monitoring strategies and methodologies, performs sampling and issues summary reports. Provides support with asbestos and lead inspections, monitoring and evaluations. Serves as technical lead for silica exposure evaluations and hearing conservation. Performs other duties as needed or required.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in industrial hygiene, safety engineering, or closely related discipline
- Experience working in a lead role as a safety specialist and/or an industrial hygienist
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and the interpretations, technical principles, practices, and procedures used to comply with OSHA regulations and industry standards.
- Experience performing safety and health evaluations, audits, inspections and industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Experience preparing technical reports and professional correspondence.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene project design, evaluation, sampling, analysis and remediation practices.
- Experience performing industrial-hygiene related evaluations and monitoring and the preparation of technical reports.
- Extensive experience performing safety audits and inspections in both construction and general industries.
- Licensed as an asbestos inspector, project monitor and project designer; licensed as a lead inspector/risk assessor.
