Job Description Summary

This is an announcement for a tenure-track biophysics faculty position in the Physics Department. Biophysics is a new research emphasis within the College of Sciences and Mathematics through a partnership with Biological Sciences and Physics. As part of this joint effort, the Department of Biological Sciences hired two tenure-track biophysicists in 2017, and the Physics Department hired one tenure-track biophysicist in 2018.

The Physics Department at Auburn University is now seeking a highly qualified individual for an additional tenure-track faculty position in the area of biophysics who will build strong collaborative relationships with the Physics Faculty; candidates at all faculty ranks (i.e., Assistant, Associate and Full Professor) will be considered. Applications from both experimental and theoretical/computational physicists are encouraged. Research subspecialties within biophysics that are of interest include (but are not restricted to) soft matter and biological materials, statistical physics of living systems, complexity in biological systems, modeling of cellular processes from molecular to intracellular processes, and the interface between biological and physical systems. The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) demonstrate strong leadership potential in the area of biophysics, (2) participate in establishing a new research group in the area of biophysics at Auburn University, (3) provide direction to undergraduate, graduate students and post-doctoral researchers in biophysics, and (4) conduct excellent instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level in the Physics curriculum.

Applications need to include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research and the names and contact information for three professional references. More information about the department can be found at: http://www.physics.auburn.edu.

The desired starting date is August 16, 2019.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or a closely related field at the time employment begins. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required. Candidates selected for these positions must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Post-doctoral research experience is highly desirable.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Review of applications will begin December 1, 2018 and continue until the position is filled.
