Psychiatrist

This position will provide psychiatric services to the ODU student population. These services include medication evaluation, management, diagnoses, and referral. The position will also provide consultation services to the staff of Counseling Services and the staff of Student Health Services with the purpose of providing coordinated care for students.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of medicine (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree. M.D. licensure in the United States and eligible for licensure in Virginia. Completion of psychiatry residency and eligible to take Board examination. Completion of psychiatric rotation during medical training. Satisfactory results from the National Practitioners Database. Current Drug Enforcement Agency registration for prescribing medication. Current knowledge of psychiatry and developments in psychotropic medication. Current knowledge of the challenges of providing psychiatric care on a University campus. Ability to collaborate as a part of a team providing mental health services including the ability to consider alternative points of view and integrate the knowledge of other professionals into a treatment plan. Ability to build rapport with students and explain complex medication and mental health diagnoses in an understandable and clear fashion.

Preferred Qualifications
Some experience with a college population. Board certification in psychiatry.

Conditions of Employment
This 12-month position will be required to work 32 hours per week.

Department Information
The Office of Counseling Services is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of licensed professionals and trainees. We provide mental health care to the ODU student community including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and outreach services.
