Eastern Washington University is interviewing for a Sous Chef. This sous chef will be a part of our culinary team and work closely with our production chefs and supervisors to prepare food for our campus community, including 1800 resident life students who live on campus. The sous chef will train and monitor staff and must be able to lead a team. This is 10-month per year cyclic position with a strong possibility of picking up shifts during cyclic time off.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees' Collective Bargaining Agreement

The successful candidate must be able to stand for the duration of their shift and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• High school diploma or GED.


• Valid food handler permit.

• Two years food service work including one year of lead experience or equivalent education or experience.


• Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

• One year of college/university food service experience.


• One year of high volume restaurant food production serving over 400 meals per day.


• Culinary degree or certificate.
