Construction Instructor


Overview of Position:
  • Plan, conduct and assess instructional activities - to include safety, proper use of tools, math, types of pipes and fittings and plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintain educational records, inventory, and tool control logs.
  • Track student achievement by coordinating and administering tests in accordance with acceptable reporting procedures;
  • Develop alternative instructions for individualized and independent study.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • Construction, Plumber or Electrician
  • Minimum 5 years licensed plumbing experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience in teaching
  • Associated Builders and Contractors
  • Core Curricula Certification NCCER
  • Plumbing Level 1
  • Plumbing Level 2
  • Plumbing Level 3
  • Plumbing Level 4

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with the following job functions:
  • Assembling pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering.
  • Filling pipes or plumbing fixtures with water and air while while observing gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Reviewing blueprints specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Studying building plans and inspects structures to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
  • Locating and marking the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
  • Installing pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
  • Cutting openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fitting, using hand and power tools. Hanging steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
  • Repairing and maintaining plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes.
