Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The successful applicant will be expected to (1) teach and advise graduate and undergraduate students in the Secondary (6-12) Social Studies Education program; (2) develop a strong record of research and publication; (3) secure external funding for research and outreach projects; (4) take an active role in partnerships and outreach with school systems; and (5) provide service to the department, institution, schools, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have: (1) an earned doctorate* in social studies education or in a related field with at least 30 graduate semester hours in social studies education; (2) at least three years of successful experience teaching social studies in secondary settings (6-12) with experience in or knowledge of U.S. public school contexts; and (3) evidence of an emerging record of scholarly work, including the potential for success publishing in refereed venues and securing external funding. (*Doctoral degree required at the time employment begins.)

Desired Qualifications

Applicants who have: (1) commitment to inquiry-based social studies teaching; (2) successful experience teaching diverse populations of students and/or teaching about issues of equity and diversity in secondary education; (3) experience integrating technology into instruction and/or in distributed learning formats; (4) commitment to outreach and school partnerships; and (5) evidence of effective teaching or mentoring with pre- or in-service teachers.
