Assistant Vice President for Facilities Operations

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer, the Assistant Vice President for Facilities Operations is responsible for the oversight of campus buildings and grounds, housekeeping, utilities, engineering operations, and the develop of the design and construction standards manual. The unit of approximately 300 personnel is responsible for care, maintenance, and repair of the majority of our over 12 million square foot campus and includes responsibility for the Virginia Tech Electric Service, a Power Plant, and the Hokie Stone Quarry.
The Assistant Vice President will interact with a wide variety of university faculty and staff, as well as external constituents. The Assistant Vice President must be a proven team builder who works inclusively and communicates effectively. The Assistant Vice President will also provide direct oversight of special projects, the development of strategic presentations, unit reporting, and may be required to represent the Chief Facilities Officer in meetings.
The Assistant Vice President will be responsible to provide and define the support required for the Associate Vice President for the oversight of all university policies relevant to the responsibility of the Chief Facilities Officer. This support requires the review and documentation of university components with and/or without delegated authority to manage and/or perform services under these university policies along with the definition of required reporting deliverables for those granted delegated authority. This position is designated as "Emergency Personnel".

Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Building Construction, Architecture, or a related field; or education and work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
- Significant experience with facilities administration, utilities, maintenance and repair, budgeting, fiscal administration, people management, client management, and operational planning. Experience should demonstrate a broad understanding of public sector or higher education business issues and facilities services operations.
- Experience researching and preparing technically complex executive level documents, position papers, reports, proposals, and presentations on a variety of strategic topics.
- Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision making and the use of key performance indicators in the execution (development, analysis, corrective action, communication, and pursuit and provision of feedback) of tactical, operational, and strategic responsibilities.
- Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and the ability to effectively interact and build trusted relationships with diverse internal and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to exceptionally responsive, consistent, and transparent service delivery to all campus constituents. Champions a responsive workforce that embraces a culture of continuous improvement, self-assessment, and accountability in a dynamic environment. - Demonstrated patience, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure as well as a strong personal ethics commitment.
- Extensive leadership and team-building skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with facilities related software and enterprise systems.
- Ability to travel to on-campus and off-campus facilities sites, with occasional overnight travel.
- This position is designated as "Emergency Personnel". Must be available twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week to provide support during planned, or emergency situations or events to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
- Additional degree or advanced certification in Business, Management, Statistics, or a related field.
- Intermediate to expert knowledge of Assetworks' AiM or similar maintenance management software.
