Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Cultural and Community Centers reports to the Senior Director and will facilitate programs and activities that support the strategic vision of the Cultural and Community Centers within Student Affairs. This position specifically supports student success by assisting the department in achieving its goal of enhancing the overall educational experience of students through the development of, exposure to, and participation in social, cultural, and educational program that promote cultural competence,. The mission is to build a welcoming, accepting, and supportive environment across multiple dimensions of diversity through education, programs, and activities that promote inclusiveness, awareness and student success. The Associate Director will coordinate various support and advocacy programs to aid in the success of students from diverse populations and will provide departmental support and guidance on effective methods for retaining and providing cultural support to historically marginalized identities on campus.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field (Higher Education, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work)
- Experience at a college or university diversity/multicultural affairs unit or relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competency in student development, identity development, social justice pedagogy, and intercultural exchange theory and praxis.
- Significant experience working within student communities and student cultural organizations in an advisory capacity.
- Extensive curriculum development and facilitation experience in social justice and cultural competence.
- Leadership of and participation in campus-wide social justice education initiatives, programs and large event planning (e.g. heritage months, symposiums, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds and ideologies with a commitment to equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven administrative, managerial and organizational skills.
- Research experience and/or publication in the fields of student learning in a co-curricular context, student development, or inclusive excellence.
- Preference for an experienced professional who has a clear understanding of the important core work of cultural skill building, social justice education initiatives and the development of student leaders.
- Evidence of active involvement in student affairs professional organizations.
- Proven leadership experience and the ability to work collaboratively and motivate others with established record of building positive relationships via strong interpersonal skills.
