Educational Applications Administrator

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Educational Application Administrator is responsible for comprehensive application administration, support, troubleshooting and configuration, of academic applications. This position ensures high levels of availability for production applications and requires the individual to stay abreast of new functionality within the tools DMU supports, in order to apply functionality to meet the academic and administrative needs of the university.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Administer, configure, and support assigned academic applications.
    • Ensure system integrity through audits and reconciliation.
    • Work with all IT teams and vendors to ensure the development and production systems and associated processes are up and running at the appropriate times to meet service level agreements.
    • Provide responsive technical assistance and document configuration and support processes.
    • Maintain end-user access roles and permissions.
    • Develop test plans; manage and complete functional testing of patches, upgrades and new implementations.
    • Look for opportunities to leverage technology to achieve university, department, and academic program objectives.
    • Provide support to faculty and staff via expert understanding of the assigned applications.
    • Support change control and testing processes for modifications to systems.
    • Analyze systems for overall performance and give recommendations on improvements. Implement solutions to improve the overall performance and functionality of the system.
    • Research and recommend innovative and possibly automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
    • Develop reports based on business requirements.
    • Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements, patches, and reconfigurations of reports and systems. Participate in the planning of upgrades/releases of software and database updates to minimize user impact.
  • Provide backup administrative support to other ITS teammates and the systems for which they are responsible. Provide training and knowledge transfer to peers and others within ITS.
  • Develop strong working relationships with vendors. Engage vendors as necessary and serve as a primary point of contact for vendor technical support.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training, including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree or four years equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years directly applicable technology administration/support experience.
  • Experience integrating, administering and supporting applications, including learning management systems.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Excellent PC knowledge and skills; familiarity with computer software and applications is necessary.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines with administrators, faculty and/or students.
  • Knowledge of information systems concepts and terminology.
  • Knowledge of online technical resources and ability to access same.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Process improvement and measurement skills preferred.
  • Ability to carry out directions with minimal supervision.
