Academic Coach and Counselor

Position Summary:
The Services for Students with Disabilities ( SSD ) office exists to assist the university with its mission of promoting students' academic success, personal growth, and development of life skills. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Academic Coach and Counselor works to ensure that students with disabilities receive equal access to curricular and co-curricular opportunities in the academic community, in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended 2008. The Academic Coach and Counselor will provide specialized support services to individuals with disabilities including academic coaching, counseling, skills instruction, and advocacy.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's Degree in counseling, clinical psychology, school psychology, social work, or related field;
-Demonstrated experience providing individual and small group counseling with solution-focused interventions for a variety of clinical impairments including, but not limited to, learning disabilities, psychological disorders, attention disorders, health impairments and/or problems caused by social and environmental stressors.
-Training/educational experience to conduct assessments and interpret psychoeducational evaluations to formulate interventions.
-Familiarity with a broad range of diagnostic categories.
-Must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, parents, and the community.
-Must have demonstrated experience in crisis intervention counseling;
-Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of students with differing academic, socioeconomic, gender, gender identity, gender expression, cultural, disability, ethnic backgrounds, and sexual orientation.
-Required computer skills required include MS Office 2016, email, Internet, and basic spreadsheet skills.
-Demonstrated training and commitment to social justice and inclusive excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Licensed or licensed-eligible.
-Training/educational experience to interpret disability documentation including psychoeducational evaluations to determine accommodations and services and to formulate clinical frameworks for practice.
-Experience providing outcomes-based interventions with college students, especially in terms of academic and executive functioning skills and self-advocacy.
-Experience providing case management services.
-Working knowledge of federal regulations including Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended 2008 and the ability to translate these regulations for a lay audience;
-Experience with development of assessment survey instruments; experience with relational databases, statistical software ( JMP and/or Excel), and publications;
-Experience in a higher education setting.
