Job Description:

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary: $14.52 per hour

Job Summary: The Locksmith is responsible for securing facilities by installing and maintaining security access systems.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Keeps equipment and building ready for use by installing, repairing and replacing locksets, upgrading existing devices.

Maintains security of building and equipment by using computer to set up keying codes to a master key system; installing repairing and replacing devices associated with access equipment.

Determines service and equipment requirements by evaluating job and work orders for maintenance and repair; conducting inspections; establishing a summer maintenance program for each facility.

Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expedition orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.

Complies with federal, state and local building codes by adhering to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Ensures operation of tools and equipment used in the job by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent in experience.
3 years' locksmith with computer generated keying.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Valid Texas Driver's License.
Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of battery powered push button locks.
Skill in Microsoft Windows navigation.
Skill to install and service locks and hardware; setup and change lock cylinders; cut and issue new keys, lockset modifications; change safe combinations; and adjust safe and fire resistant file cabinet locks for all Texas Christian University facilities.
Skill to perform master keying.
Ability to clearly communicate verbally.
Ability to cut keys using existing codes.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders and stairs, and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment:
Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
May be exposed to solvents as well as potential exposure to mold and asbestos.
The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
