Title Position Reports To: Director of Campus Recreation

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting the Director in the administration, development and implementation of recreational programming for the campus community. Oversees major program areas including informal recreation, Facilities, Group Fitness and Aquatics.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Assist the Director in the development and implementation of recreational programming for the campus community.

Oversee the management of informal recreation personnel, including 10 student supervisors, over 100 student employees including fitness center and gym attendants, lifeguards, control desk, equipment issue and office help. Coordination of hiring, training, scheduling and staff payroll.

Oversee Student development and implementation of staff incentive program

Supervise (2) Graduate Assistants

Assist in the overall management of the recreation facilities in the CRS and Woodruff Hall., especially the fitness center.

Maintain equipment in the fitness center and manage records and replacement plan of fitness equipment.

Maintain inventory of towels, wipes, and laundry supplies and maintenance of equipment room washer and dryer.

Develop and supervise recreational programming for the fitness center, pool and racket courts.

Aquatics management

Coordinate pool schedule and assist with operations of the pool as needed.

Maintain required records and documentation; work with the Board of Health as needed.

Implement Adult Learn to swim classes for the campus community.

Work in cooperation with Athletic Administration and Coaching staff.

Coordinate Campus Group Fitness Program including hiring, training and scheduling instructors and helpers; and planning and monitoring registration and attendance for all classes.

Coordinate special classes for one-day events for clubs and organizations upon request.

The Assistant Director will coordinate certification/training for personnel in the Campus Recreation Department in CPR and First Aid, and maintain dept. records of such certificates.

Coordinate the CRS Membership and Healthy Steps Programs

Work cooperatively/collaboratively with other professionals and graduate assistants in recreation as well as all athletic administration and coaches and other departments across campus.

Participation on committees and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.

Ability to supervise and manage a student work force.

Ability to supervise and maintain recreation facilities, especially a fitness center

Knowledge of current trends in intramural and recreational programs.

Knowledge of pool management, lifeguarding and pool safety

Knowledge in current trends and management of a fitness center and group fitness programs

Certification in one or more of the following will be required upon hiring or within 1 year:

CPR, First Aid

CPO

Lifeguard instructor certificate

First Aid CPR/AED instructor's certificate

Current Lifeguard certificate

WSi Certificate

Knowledge of multiple computer applications in recreation management such as IM leagues, EZ Facility, Subitup, EMS and others. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets as well as other computer applications.

Ability to work occasional long days, some nights and weekends are required.

Physical requirements:

Some heavy lifting, moving equipment is required. Ability to demonstrate CPR skills, and instruct in basic first aid is preferred.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree is preferred plus 2 years of experience working in a campus recreation setting.

Experience in managing recreation facilities, fitness and managing a large staff of students is required. Experience in aquatics management is desirable.
