Job Summary/Duties : Provide direct patient care services to medical inpatients at UC Medical Center, including overnight admissions and cross coverage of two 26-bed units. Physicians will be members of the Section of Hospital Medicine with an academic appointment, and will be welcome participants at administrative and educational meetings throughout the department.

Schedule : Clinical duties would be 7-on / 7-off. Shift length of 12 hours. 182 shifts per year.

Compensation : $245,000 annually + highly competitive benefit package

Primary Responsibilities :
  • Provide in-house, overnight cross coverage for approximately 50 patients admitted to the Hospital Medicine service
  • Admit and workup new medical patients from the Emergency Department
  • Provide general internal medicine consultative services for inpatients on the psychiatric units
  • Lead "rapid response" and "code blue" teams in the assigned patient tower
  • Monitor progress of admitted patients, adjust therapeutic interventions, and engage specialty consultation when appropriate
  • Invasive diagnostic procedures to include lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and others as competency permits
  • Participate in the education of nursing staff on the units
  • Participate in the quality improvement framework of the units


Minimum Qualifications : American Board of Internal Medicine certified or eligible physicians (MD, DO, or equivalent). Must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the State of Ohio, with a valid DEA license for Schedule II-V, and all independent prescriptive authority therein. Must hold a valid ACLS certificate. Applicants having at least one year of independent, inpatient medicine practice experience are preferred, though applicants with less experience are invited to apply.
