Cloud Systems Engineer (ITS5)




We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position:
Cloud Systems Engineer (ITS 5)


The Cloud Systems Engineer will function at the expert level and will be responsible for the planning, support and implementation of the cloud computing infrastructure for Eastern Washington University enterprise systems, to include technologies like Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). This position will independently consult, analyze, design, develop, program, troubleshoot and resolve problems for major tasks, projects and initiatives, both high-risk/high-impact and/or for mission critical systems and applications. This environment will rely heavily upon virtualization technologies. Responsibility is shared with the Identity and Access Engineer for the design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, or modification of identity management systems or programs. Additional areas of responsibility involve design, documentation, hands on installation of new equipmentapplications, enhancing and streamlining existing applications, replacing and restructuring of legacy systems, providing quality assurance and delivery of analysis of data and systems for the University. Duties will involve design, consultation, documentation, hardware installation, enhancing and streamlining existing systems, replacing and restructuring of legacy systems, architect cloud solutions, enhance configuration management and automation tools, provide quality assurance and deliver analysis of data and systems for the University.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Required Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology. Experience may be substituted for degree.

  • 3+ years direct hands-on experience managing and administering cloud environments at an expert level. This should include extensive experience managing technologies that incorporate Windows and Linux operating systems in a multi-server environment.

  • Three years of experience with virtualization technologies and ability to administer and leverage enterprise systems within a virtual environment.

  • Deep understanding of networking technologies in support of both on premises hardware and virtualized environments as well as cloud/hybrid services.

  • Must have experience managing authentication and access using both directory services and Single sign on services.

  • Must have experience working in enterprise environments with systems supporting 500+ users.

  • As a senior level position, may occasionally be expected to work nights and weekends.

  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Amazon Web Services Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Cloud Platform.

  • LPIC-1 (Linux Server Professional Certification, Level 1), RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or Equivalent certification.

  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools, such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
