Assistant Professor, Social Foundations of Education

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations in the College of Education seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Foundations of Education. Responsibilities include teaching a capstone course, Schools and American Society, within the educator preparation program; engagement in scholarly activity; and service to the university, college, and department. There is also the potential to teach graduate coursework in the Ed.D. program. The start date will be in August, 2019.

The social foundations faculty are committed to the values of equity, democratic decision-making, and the transformative potential of education in the public realm. With these values in mind, we welcome applicants with research interests that can contribute to the diversity of the department, including but not limited to: critical race theory, cultural studies, decolonial studies, disability studies, educational studies, education policy studies, gender studies, international comparative education, and queer studies.

Education Requirements:

Earned doctorate in social, cultural, or philosophical foundations of education or related field by May 2019 required.

Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications include demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following disciplinary fields: anthropology, cultural studies, history, philosophy, political economy, or sociology of education; record of scholarship; dynamic emerging research agenda related to social foundations of education; demonstrated commitment to teaching, scholarship, and community engagement; and a demonstrated ability to teach courses related to history, philosophy, and sociology of education.
