Global Engagement Advisor

The Global Engagement Advisor is responsible for supporting domestic and international students pursuing experiential learning opportunities through the College. This position would be responsible for advising students, maintaining student records, and planning and implementing promotional and outreach activities on campus. This position reports to the Director of International Education.

Salary Grade A09
Essential Functions
1. Meet with students to provide information and maintain applications for short-term study away experiences.
2. Advise international students, serve as primary contact for immigration and cultural support. Connect international students with professional preparation opportunities such as career mentoring and shadowing, internships, service-learning and honors program.
3. Serve as a Designated School Official ( DSO ), maintaining the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System ( SEVIS ) and all related certification requirements.
4. Provide accurate immigration information to international students, monitors and tracks student immigration status, and maintains appropriate files.
5. Maintain and distribute emergency contact information for short-term study away experiences.
6. Coordinate and plan events and programs to promote study away opportunities and support international students.
7. Compile and administer surveys and reports.
8. Participate in training and maintains a relationship with professional organizations to keep abreast of changes in federal rules and regulations.
9. Attend and present at professional conferences to remain current in the field of international education and represent Elmhurst College.
10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
11. Support mission, vision and values.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Collaborate with individuals from every academic department and administrative office on campus to provide a high level of service.
3. Provide support for the International Study Away Honor Society.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree and relevant international experience.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly with presentation creation and delivery.
3. Strong intercultural and interpersonal communication skills.
4. Evidence of strong organizational, administrative, and computer skills.
5. Experience working, living, or studying abroad.
6. U.S. citizenship or permanent residence, as mandated by federal regulations for F-1 DSO .

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree.
2. Prior experience and familiarity advising students on complex U.S. immigration regulations and procedures.
3. Experience working in an international education office.
4. Experience with student management software such as Terra Dotta.
5. Competency in a second language.
6. Knowledge and understanding of education abroad best practices.
7. Strong customer service skills.
8. Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment.
9. Ability to work independently and part of a team to reach campus international education goals.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
