Program Administrator - Film and Media Studies Program, School of Arts and Scie


This position is f ull-time with the possibility of reduced hours in the summer.



Mass media saturate our lives, making media literacy an indispensable civic skill for the 21st century. Offering both a major and a minor, the Film and Media Studies (FMS) program at Tufts University is an interdisciplinary program that educates students about the artistic potential and social effects of film and other forms of modern media. Theoretical and practical knowledge are equally essential for media literacy, and in FMS, students take both critical studies and production courses. The program combines film with media studies due to their increasing convergence and is international in its outlook, thereby furthering Tufts' commitment to globalism and diversity.

The Program Administrator serves as the primary administrator, and face of, the new, rapidly growing Film and Media Studies Program at Tufts University. He/she/they works closely with the Program Director and other staff, implementing the Director's vision and overseeing all administrative tasks, including budgeting, course management, tracking students, communications and outreach, website maintenance, coordinating meetings, maintaining and updating databases, arranging travel for visiting speakers and faculty candidates, proofreading and editing complex reports, documents and spreadsheets, and managing staff and work study students. Plans meetings and special events including room reservations, design of marketing and publicity materials, and working with speakers on materials and set up. Participates in development of goals and strategies and attends FMS faculty meetings, recording decisions; creates data management and filing systems; develops, analyzes and monitors budgets; implements marketing and advertising efforts including creating content for website and social media. Represents the program within the university at meetings and events and to students, prospective students, parents, and alumni. Conducts research and drafts reports and results. Coordinates hiring and training of staff, students and temporary help.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor s degree and at least three years' administrative experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including word processing, editing, graphics, spreadsheet and database knowledge.
  • Bookkeeping or basic accounting knowledge.
  • Candidates should be comfortable interacting in a positive manner with a range of faculty, staff and students.
  • Strong writing, organizational, problem-solving and teamwork skills; ability to multi-task.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master s degree and/or three years experience in program/department administration preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing such as Microsoft Publisher, Adobe In-Design, etc., and email marketing programs such as MailChimp.
  • Ability to work comfortably on both PC and Mac platforms.
