Research Assistant

Position Summary:
The Oestreich laboratory of molecular immunology at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute and School of Medicine aims to define the regulatory mechanisms that govern T cell differentiation and function during immune responses. This research involves the application of a number of molecular and cellular immunology techniques including flow cytometry, RT- PCR , chromatin immunoprecipitation, co-immunoprecipitation, high-throughput sequencing, reporter assays, and work involving tissue culture and murine infection models.
The Oestreich lab is recruiting a Research Assistant that will be responsible for performing experiments and other duties that will advance the goals of the laboratory. This includes performing both molecular and cellular immunology experiments, aiding with mouse colony maintenance and oversight, and assisting with lab-related administrative tasks. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, record and analyze data, and assist in the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and presentations. The successful applicant will be expected to work both individually and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated laboratory experience in a biology laboratory.
2. Demonstrated experience in both MAC /PC computer platforms.
3. Demonstrated experience with WORD , EXCEL , or POWERPOINT .

Preferred Qualifications:
1. At least one year of experience in immunological or molecular biology research.
2. Beneficial if applicant has experience working with mice.
3. BS in biology, physical sciences or related discipline or equivalent training and education or an equivalent.
