Content Creator (Videographer/Photographer)

Position Summary:
University Relations is seeking a Content Creator (Videographer/Photographer) to join our multi-disciplinary team to produce, shoot, and edit video and still photos for external and internal audiences. The Content Creator will fulfill daily video and photo assignments for marketing purposes and editorial needs, targeting a wide spectrum of audiences, from prospective and current students to alumni and donors, from industry partners to the general public. Projects range from news-style videos / live streaming for the university's video page / videos for social media / photographs for print publications and event coverage in a variety of settings. The Content Creator is a part of the Content Strategy team and collaborates closely with editors, writers, web developers, visual team members and more.
The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience as a videographer, a video producer, or a similar role, working in a dynamic, high-energy agency or educational setting. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, multitask, and work on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously.
The Creative Studio, composed of the Design and Digital Strategy team (graphic designers and web developers) and the Content Strategy team (editors/writers and photo/video professionals), is situated in University Relations in the Advancement division, alongside the Development and Alumni Relations offices. The studio's efforts are strategically aligned to support university-level priorities. The Content Creator reports to the Studio's Director of Content Strategy.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in video or film production, photography, visual communication, journalism, new media, fine arts, or equivalent work and/or academic experience.
• Professional and/or academic experience in producing, creating, and editing videos, photos, and/or digital and social content, with a demonstrated flexibility in shooting styles, for commercial, public relations, or news purposes.
• Portfolio that demonstrates a range of experience in photo and video production and visual problem-solving, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, results-driven environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of digital videography and photography, advanced photographic and video techniques, and professional quality standards.
• Experience using photo and video hardware and software, including DSLR cameras, mobile phones, lenses, editing systems, lighting and sound-recording.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and the ability to work independently and under the creative direction of others.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree or specialized training and experience that equates to an advanced degree.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite photo and video applications.
• Proficiency in Mac platforms.
• Knowledge of Virginia Tech or higher education setting.
• Knowledge of industry best practices and trends in photo and video, and a willingness to experiment with and embrace new visual tools, including hardware and software and new work processes.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with digital workflow tools and digital library databases.
