Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice


Brief Summary:

The criminal justice department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS) at Marist College invites applications for a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice to begin the fall of 2019. The department offers both a major and a minor in criminal justice. With both a strong theoretical foundation and multiple high quality internship experiences, the degree is flexible in serving students with a variety of career aspirations. The department provides students with opportunities to understand the application of criminal justice principles as they relate to every dimension of the criminal justice system.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to teach research methods and criminal justice core courses with the opportunity to develop new electives in their area of expertise; and will be expected to engage in research, academic advising, and service. The expected course load is 3:4. Applicants should be engaged in ongoing research activities and enthusiastic about working to support undergraduate students' research projects.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a related social or behavioral science field by May 2019. A JD alone is not sufficient for this position. Research interests are open, but expertise in quantitative methods and/or crime mapping (GIS expertise) will receive special consideration. We welcome candidates with the ability to promote community-based research collaborations. Applicants must have commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds. College level teaching experience is preferred; competence in the use of instructional technology is expected.
