Assistant Professor of Social Work

Brief Summary:

The Social Work/Sociology department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS) at Marist College invites applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Social Work to begin the fall of 2019. The department offers an undergraduate major in social work, and minors in social work and sociology. The Bachelor of Science in social work (BSW) is an accredited program by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The field education program is considered the signature pedagogy of social work education and, as such, all faculty are expected to regularly contribute to this vital aspect of the program. This is a small department that works as a collaborative team. We seek colleagues who enjoy working as a team and who are engaged in innovative models of teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses in research methods, sociology, and required foundation courses in sociology (such as social inequality). The expected course load for our faculty is 3:4. Applicants should be engaged in ongoing research activities and enthusiastic about working to support undergraduate students' research projects. Applicants should have an active research agenda that leads to peer reviewed publications and presentations. Responsibilities will include teaching in the field education program and acting as a field liaison for students in their internship/practicum placements.

Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates with an earned doctorate in Social Work, Sociology or a related social or behavioral science field by May 2019. Also required is an earned Master's in Social Work (MSW). Areas of specialization are open, and the department is interested in providing students with opportunities to understand the application of social work principles to issues such as social inequality and disparities, behavioral health, diversity, and inclusiveness. We seek dynamic teachers who model the knowledge skills and values necessary for ethical practice. College level teaching experience is preferred; competence in the use of instructional technology is expected.
