Staff Assistant - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering prepares students to work at the intersection of infrastructure, the environment, and society offering BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The department provides classroom education, laboratory instruction, as well as both graduate and undergraduate research training.

The Staff Assistant (SA) provides administrative office support to the department chair, faculty and staff. The SA supports office operations as directed by the Department Administrator, including: office reception, answering phones, directing visitors, ordering office supplies, making photocopies, assisting faculty and students with purchasing and reimbursements, arranging Department travel; academic support including: processing textbook orders, scheduling courses, coordinating course evaluations. The SA works with the faculty to coordinate the Undergraduate Degree Programs including overseeing courses, classrooms and modifications for fall and spring semester, and summer session. Along with faculty, the SA will coordinate all ABET files and databases, as wells as the collection and administration of surveys for ABET and other related projects. The SA assists with department communications, including maintaining the news feed for the website and for department communications. The Staff Assistant serves as an information resource to the Department Administrator, Chair, faculty, students, visitors, inside/ outside vendors and staff; provide quality customer service to the public, students, parents, alumni, and other staff members.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED and 2-4 years of administrative experience or college degree with 1-3 years experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including word processing, editing, graphics, spreadsheet and database knowledge.
  • Bookkeeping or basic accounting knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
