Director, Northern Virginia ECE MEng Program

Position Summary:
The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ( ECE ) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a full-time, academic year, non-tenure-track Collegiate Faculty member who will serve as the Director of the Northern Virginia ECE Masters of Engineering (MEng) degree program.
This Collegiate Faculty position (non-tenure, renewable) will be at the rank of Collegiate Associate or Collegiate Professor. Collegiate Faculty mentor students, teach courses, support undergraduate or graduate research, and contribute to the overall development and assessment of academic programs. Collegiate Faculty are expected to participate in department, college and university service, committee work, to pursue a program of personal, funded research, including research into aspects of teaching and learning, and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will lead a group responsible for the recruitment, teaching and advising of MEng students in the National Capital Region in coordination with ECE department leadership. Interaction with local industry, national laboratories and government agencies is also required.
Duties and responsibilities include the following:
Student Recruitment, Teaching, and Mentorship (60% time)
- Work with ECE faculty and staff and the Virginia Tech Graduate School in the area of MEng admissions.
- Market the MEng degree program in Northern Virginia and internationally.
- Coordinate course offerings and scheduling for the MEng program with emphasis on the needs of the students based in Northern Virginia.
- Teach graduate courses in ECE .
- Mentor students towards completion of their MEng design project.
- Coordinate the advisement of MEng students in Northern Virginia towards the timely completion of their degree.
Research (30% time)
- Maintain a program of personal, funded research in an area related to electrical and computer engineering.
- Undertake research related to MEng design projects.
Departmental, College and University Service (10% time)
- Participate in departmental, college and university service, committee work, and perform other administrative duties.

Required Qualifications:
- A PhD degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field and previous teaching experience at the graduate level in ECE or a related field are required.
- A strong record of academic accomplishments and a proven ability to work collaboratively
- Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction and a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal challenges
- Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous academic administrative experience.
- Previous curriculum development and assessment experience.
- Interest and experience in advising, mentoring, and working effectively with a diverse student population.
- Willingness and ability to work in a high-tech environment, such as online instruction and distance learning.
- Experience working in academia and collaborating with industry.
- Experience working with industry to facilitate student project funding.
