Senior Development Officer - Major Gifts

The Senior Development Officer - Major Gifts serves as a front-line fundraiser as part of the Major Gifts Team.

Responsibilities of the Senior Development Officer - Major Gifts include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work to further the Major Gifts Program at Wheaton College, including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of alumni, parents and friends who are capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more.
• Personally manage a pool of rated prospects within designated geographic region(s).
• Ensure that all prospects under management will be solicited for the proper target amount and campaign priority.
• Share responsibility for supervising and managing an administrative assistant.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience working in development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated success in personal solicitation and closing of philanthropic gifts in excess of $100,000.
• Position entails significant interaction with high-level donors and trustees.
• Position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish priorities, set objectives and achieve stated fundraising and activity goals.
• Ability to work independently.
• General computer literacy.
• Significant travel required; must be willing to travel extensively during and after normal business hours.
• Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Preference given to candidates with experience in institutions similar to Wheaton College.
• Familiarity with principals of fundraising software, specifically with Banner.
• Computer literate in Windows, Microsoft Excel and proficient in email communication.
• Basic knowledge of financial planning and financial markets.

Physical Demands
• Ability to travel independently including, but not limited to, driving, flying, and other travel to visit with prospects.
