Research Assistant Grant Funded-Yuan

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Des Moines University seeks a Research Assistant for a full-time, grant funded position. The position assists in the preparation and execution of research activities in the laboratory for Physiology/Pharmacology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties related to research will include the following activities. Other research-related duties may be assigned.
  • Order reagents and supplies for the laboratory.
  • Plan and run experiments as required.
  • Perform literature searches.
  • Attend regular lab meetings and with the principal investigator for the purpose of planning and reporting lab activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of scientific presentation material - posters, slides, etc.
  • Organize and secure data generated from experiments while maintaining laboratory records and experimental database.
  • Follow and ensure laboratory-wide compliance with regulatory policies.
  • Participate in the training and organizing of students working within the laboratory.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND LAB EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in the life sciences, medical sciences or related field is required. Non-scientific bachelor's degree with scientific coursework and biomedical research experience may also be considered.
  • Master's Degree in biomedical science or related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with basic cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  • Research background in neuroscience is desired.
  • Experience with rodent behavioral testing is desired.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Proficient at working independently, managing time, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and organizing/planning projects.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Experience with data acquisition and analysis is preferable.
  • Must be able to handle reagents safely, and perform laboratory work under conditions of universal precautions against biohazards to prevent self-contamination or contamination of the environment; and work with microorganisms, radiation and laboratory animals.
  • Excellent communication (writing and verbal) skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Work environment twenty percent of time working with lab animals.
