JOB SUMMARY:

Provide clinical supervision to student clinicians while ensuring high quality services to clients in the Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders; conduct periodic speech-language screenings/assessments on campus or in the community, as needed; continually review ASHA standards, be apprised of changes and updates in clinical supervision models, and adhere to evidence-based practice.



REPORTS TO: Director of Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Observe student clinicians as they provide service to clients.
  2. Regularly meet with student clinicians to provide feedback on their clinical performance.
  3. Assist student clinicians in generating goals and objective for their clients.
  4. Review clinical reports and provide feedback to students on their clinical writing.
  5. Evaluate students' clinical performance.
  6. Conduct/model clinical sessions for students, as needed.
  7. Participate in meetings (e.g., CPSE/CSE), as required.
  8. Initiate and participate in clinical/academic research opportunities with CSD faculty.
  9. Conduct speech-language screenings/assessments on campus or in the community, as needed.
  10. Assist the Director or Coordinator with administrative tasks, as needed.
  11. Teach a clinical seminar course, as needed.
  12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Clinical Supervision:

  1. Provide students with opportunities for development of experiences consistent with current evidence based practices during their pre-professional development.
  2. Be responsible for supervision of students in generating clinical hours and modeling exemplary clinical practices.
  3. Provide models and instruction in the application of basic and applied knowledge to the diagnosis and management of communication disorders for undergraduate and graduate students.
  4. Knowledge of core principles of clinical supervision.
  5. Demonstrated skills in the supervisory process of students and/or clinical fellows.
  6. Knowledge of service delivery models for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Clinical Teaching:

  1. Experience in supervision/teaching at the University level.
  2. Will work with teaching and research faculty to bridge classroom instruction and clinical training.

Research/Scholarship:

  1. Will support the overall research mission of the department.
  2. Develop and coordinate research-to-practice clinical opportunities.
  3. Facilitate recruitment of participants for on-going research projects.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master's Degree plus 4 years of clinical experience is required that includes a minimum of 2-3 years of clinical supervision experience.
  2. ASHA CCC-SLP and NYS Licensure in SLP.
  3. TSHH/TSSLD Certification.
  4. Experience in Adult Neurogenic Disorders, Speech Sound Disorders, Fluency Disorders and/or Voice Disorders preferred.
  5. Must have interests in Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Practice.
  6. Spanish proficiency a plus.
  7. Experience in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds is required.
  8. Excellent Interpersonal, Clinical and Professional Writing Skills.

HOURS:

  1. Flexible to work some Saturdays and 8 hour days which fluctuate between 9am to 8pm (especially during the Fall and Spring semesters).
