Assistant Professor in Residence


The Department of Political Science at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in Residence at its Avery Point Campus with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019.

We seek an engaging and excellent instructor of Political Science in the area of American Politics, with a preference for candidates who also can teach courses in Public Law, Maritime Law and/or Marine Policy. This position is intended to contribute to the American Studies and the Maritime Studies programs.

Avery Point contributes to the understanding - and solution - of problems relating to the intersection of oceans and people, both through the expertise of the faculty and the education of its students who will help ensure sustainable uses of marine resources and coastal regions and cities. The Avery Point campus places special emphasis on marine and maritime-oriented undergraduate curricula, as well as programs responsive to the needs of its significant corporate and industrial constituencies, and its unique regional economic and cultural characteristics. Assistant Professors in Residence carry a course load of 21 credits per academic year or equivalent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in Political Science or related field completed by start date; evidence or promise of a strong teaching record; and a deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs. All candidates must also demonstrate promise in their research program. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants who can teach courses in a broad range of subfields are preferred. Preferred qualifications also include an outstanding record of research and scholarship excellence; commitment to effective teaching, integrating technology into instruction, on-line instruction; and the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019. Position may be renewed annually. The successful candidate's academic appointment will be at the Avery Point campus.
