Research Specialist -Virginia Tech Transportation Instit

Position Summary:
Candidates will provide support to Researchers involving study participants, driver training and data collection. Maintain a good working relationship with sponsors/staff. Assist in greeting participants on-site and administering questionnaires. Maintain participant confidentiality. Set up the Smart Road for a participant study, presenting experimental conditions during the study, and cleaning up the Smart Road once the study is completed. Perform on-road tasks such as acting as pedestrians or bicyclist, setting up objects on the road, or operating experimental equipment. Experimentation does require candidate to be outside after dark for extended periods of time, in differing weather conditions. Track data collection progress and maintenance issues. Reduce study data and inspect data quality. Graph study data and format graphs for consistency. Ability to maintain summary spreadsheets and contact information of participants and potential participants. Assist other research personnel in daily administrative duties. Positive attitude, reliable communication and attendance required. Must be available a minimum of four nights per week.

Required Qualifications:
-Demonstrated knowledge of lab and research policies, procedures and protocols.
-Demonstrated experience in Human factors transportation research.
-Proficiency in use of computers and standard office applications such as Microsoft office (Word and Excel).
-Demonstrated experience conducting phone interviews and screening potential participants both in person and over the phone.

Preferred Qualifications:
Some college-level coursework in a related field preferred.
