Program Associate - Highland & Bath County

Position Summary:
Animal and Natural Resources:
Candidate will assist the Animal and Natural Resources ( ANR ) Agent. The candidate will be responsible for continuing needed programs run by the local ANR program which includes but is not limited to: Virginia Quality Assured ( VQA ) beef program, County Invasive Plant Control program, and assist with 4-H/ FFA Youth Livestock projects and quality assurance training.
4-H Youth Development:
Position candidate will assist the Highland-Bath 4-H Youth Development Agent, to deliver and evaluate 4-H educational programs. Programs will include educational activities, contests, camping, and specific team(s), with special emphasis on in-school programming, community gardening, STEM enrichment, and other out-of-school 4-H enrichment programs.
Overall Duties: Assist office staff and Extension Agents, assists in planning and implementing programs within the unit plan of work. Responsible for marketing programs including creating flyers, posts to website, and writing media releases. Assist with volunteer management, including volunteer screening and records maintenance. Attend and assist with coordinating various programs and events.
Position is dual-county funded; candidate must work in both Highland and Bath counties. Must be willing to adhere to the Virginia Cooperative Extension Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity Compliance Program environment. Full-time, salaried position with full state benefit package. Will be responsible for working with unit staff to ensure office coverage. Some evening and weekend work required. Infrequent overnight travel may be required.
Possession of valid driver's license required. Employee must be responsible for transportation to work sites and eligible for travel reimbursement.

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge and/or experience in working with children and adults in an educational setting.
Possession of a valid driver's license required.
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other professionals and volunteers.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to effectively multitask
Adept at working in groups and with others
Friendly, customer service oriented attitude
Familiarity with standard computer software such as Microsoft Office programs. Must be willing to master new educational technology as it develops.

Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate from accredited university/college with an A.A.S., B.A. or B.S. degree; commensurable work experience preferably in animal and poultry sciences, agricultural education and/or general education coursework, family and consumer science, agricultural economics, youth development or related fields. Knowledge of the 4-H program desirable. Experience in education and managing volunteers desired.
Preference given to those with BQA chute-side training and/or VA pesticide certification.
