Position Summary:
The Department of Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a non-tenured faculty position in the area of Cyber-security. The position will be filled, depending upon qualifications, at the rank of full Professor of Practice and will be housed at the Northern Virginia Center in the National Capital Region. The successful candidate will teach courses on campuses throughout Virginia and in the online Master of Information Technology program, and will contribute to the development and expansion of the cyber-security program through outreach and research.
While professor of practice faculty members may conduct research and present their findings in professional or academic venues, there are no expectations for a research program publishing in peer-reviewed journals as with a tenure-track faculty appointment. However, they are expected to be able to understand and evaluate the research that applies to their field and incorporate this cutting-edge knowledge in their teaching. In addition to teaching professor of practice faculty are expected to remain active in their professions in ways that contribute to their assignment such as conducting applied research to support industry outreach, serving in technical, professional and associations committees, and similar activities.
This appointment is renewed annually based on performance. Professor of practice faculty members are expected to maintain AACSB status as either Instructional Practitioner, Scholarly Practitioner, Practice Academic or Scholarly Academic.
Required Qualifications:
A master's degree or higher in Business Information Technology or in a related technology field is required. Prospective applicants with teaching and research experience in applying security-related knowledge to explore interdisciplinary cyber-security challenges through the lens of technology, law, governance, ethics, and business are encouraged to apply. In addition to teaching and research, faculty members are expected to engage in departmental, college, and university service activities. Qualified individuals with experience in outreach to corporate and government entities are preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have evidence of prior teaching experience in cyber-security through their professional employment, professional associations, in a formal academic setting, or relevant education venue. The preferred candidate will have at least five years of experience conducting, leading and managing analysis of cybersecurity problems and solutions. Preferred candidates will have their TS/ SCI clearance and have experience working with federal and state agencies on communications technology and cybersecurity solutions.
