Executive Assistant to the Dean

Position Summary:
Executive Assistant to the Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences performs a broad range of administrative and executive duties as required to support the dean and provide office functionality. The Executive Assistant directs the daily operations of the Office of the Dean, serves as an effective liaison with on and off campus contacts and conducts the activities of the office in a professional, organized, and efficient manner, handling confidential and sensitive matters with utmost discretion. The successful candidate will use excellent judgment and decision-making to ensure the integrity and professionalism of the Office of the Dean and the College. Serves as the key liaison between the Dean and the Virginia Tech administration, college leadership, academic units, and constituencies at the local, state, and national levels.

Required Qualifications:
-Successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in providing executive-level administrative management and support in an academic or professional office environment;
-Demonstrated high proficiency with current office software applications such as word processing, pdf, spreadsheets, database management systems, electronic mail, and presentation applications;
-Must be able to prepare executive communications and produce professional reports, documents, and presentations, with limited oversight;
-Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
-Experience working with confidential matters;
-Working knowledge of web technology with the demonstrated ability to use the web for research/information gathering;
-Ability to manage multiple priorities;
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed;
-Ability to understand and interpret the role of the Dean, anticipate the needs of senior management and make independent decisions;
-Ability to manage a dynamic schedule for the Dean;
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities;
-Ability to understand and work with university and state policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelors' degree in the Liberal Arts, social sciences, or related field, or Certified Administrative Professional or equivalent;
-Experience working in higher education providing executive level administrative support to senior management;
-Knowledge of university organizational structure, policies and procedures;
-Familiarity with external constituencies, such as media, legislators, and leaders.
