Criminology & Criminal Justice - Assistant Professor (2 Positions)

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice seeks applicants for two Assistant Professors to begin August 2019. We are seeking criminologists to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminology and Public Policy, Criminological Theory, Research Methods, Capstone Research Project (undergrad), and/or Inequality and to be active members of our graduate programs in Applied Sociology (MA) and/or Criminology & Criminal Justice (PhD) as well as undergraduate programs in Criminal Justice and in Sociology. Our MA program in sociology emphasizes theory and research methods and includes a criminal justice track. Our PhD Criminology & Criminal Justice is a sociological criminology program that highlights social inequality and public policy in the study of crime and justice issues. A Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, or sociology and a demonstrated ability to conduct research, publish, and teach in criminology/criminal justice are required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the degree be completed by August 2019.
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers Bachelor's degrees in Sociology and in Criminal Justice, M.A. Applied Sociology, and Ph.D. Criminology & Criminal Justice. The department has an accomplished, collaborative, and diverse faculty and student body and the successful candidate should enrich this environment. Opportunities exist to participate in ODU's Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity and the Department of Women's Studies. The surrounding localities and their criminal justice and social service agencies offer tremendous opportunities for research partnerships.
