Fiscal and Operations Assistant

Position Summary:
The Fiscal and Operations Assistant provides financial and operational support to the director and faculty at the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center ( WAAC ) in Alexandria, Virginia. Based in the National Capitol Region ( NCR ), this position serves as the fiscal liaison between the WAAC and the Blacksburg campus and will work closely with and report to the School of Architecture + Design Business Manager. Responsibilities include purchasing, accounts payable, travel arrangements and reimbursements, processing new hire wage appointments, and maintaining documentation for audit purposes and for monthly reconciliation of all funds. This position manages day-to-day administrative operations including coordination with the VT Foundation, Capitol Management Companies, and VT Real Estate Management.

Required Qualifications:
Significant experience in business management, accounting or a related field; demonstrated expertise in financial principles and procedures; accounting/bookkeeping experience such as accounts payable/accounts receivable, auditing, and budgeting; experience handling confidential material and maintaining confidential files/records; proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; ability to research, investigate, analyze and evaluate data; ability to work effectively in a team environment with individuals from diverse multicultural backgrounds; excellent customer service, interpersonal and communications skills; ability to work independently, prioritize work, solve problems and perform multiple functions simultaneously in a work environment marked by frequent interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related education and/or experience in business management, accounting or a related field; demonstrated record of successfully managing project timelines, deliverables, documentation, and budgets; experience in governmental and/or fund accounting; previous experience or knowledge working in an academic office; knowledge of University policies and procedures; demonstrated proficiency with financial and human resources information systems such as Banner, MicroStrategy, HokieMart, PeopleAdmin, Travel Expense Management system and TimeClock Plus.
