The EWU Planning Programs invite applications for a position as full-time Lecturer for the 2018-2019 academic year with employment beginning September 14, 2018.

The Lecturer is a full-time faculty member supporting multiple aspects of the program, including teaching undergraduate and graduate planning courses, support for student internships and applied classroom projects based on the candidate's professional planning experience as well as academic knowledge. We are seeking candidates with knowledge and experience in some or all the following areas: transportation planning, community development, urban design, environmental planning.

The Urban and Regional Planning programs at Eastern Washington University have a long tradition of applied research and student engagement in community development and professional planning practice, and close ties to professional planners across the region. The Bachelors Degree was established in 1968, and the MURP in 1978, and both programs have been accredited since the PAB process was established. The mission of the Urban and Regional Planning Programs at EWU is to provide quality professional planning education, research, and community service with an emphasis on problem solving at the local level.

Eastern is a Masters-I public university of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students offering high-quality liberal arts and professional programs in Cheney, the Spokane metropolitan area, and elsewhere in Washington State. Conditions of Employment

• Primary location at the EWU Riverpoint campus, Spokane, with occasional teaching at the EWU Cheney campus.

• Field instruction may be part of some classes, and some travel is expected.

• The required start date for this position is 09/14/18. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/14/18.

Required Qualifications:

• The candidate shall possess a PAB accredited master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or an accredited degree from a closely related professional discipline (Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Transportation Planning). If the accredited degree is at the bachelor's level, the candidate shall also possess a master's degree.

• The candidate shall have completed at least three years of professional planning experience demonstrating leadership in plan making, project management and community engagement.

• Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD or ABD in Urban and Regional Planning;

• AICP Certified, or appropriate professional registration in related discipline;

• Successful experience teaching planning or related courses in an accredited planning program;

• Evidence of leadership in all aspects of plan making;

• Evidence of active promotion of community engagement and applied planning with local communities;

• Ability to incorporate equity and distributive impact considerations into plan making;

• Ability to apply sustainability and low impact development considerations and techniques;

• Evidence of teaching field-based studio course(s).
