Student Success Advisor

The Student Success Advisor advises and manages caseloads of students so as to positively influence overall student success as measured by such outcomes as retention and graduation rates, as well as resolve a range of issues that put students at risk of attrition. The incumbent will use data to identify and reach out to students who may be at risk, respond to student referrals by faculty and staff, and assist students who seek help on their own. The incumbent will support new student orientation, onboarding, and other student-success programming, as well as serve on committees, and support various projects as assigned.

Responsibilities of the Student Success Advisor include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide support in order to maximize student success. This includes meeting with students to offer advising on academic planning, course selection, academic coaching, etc., as well as transfer evaluation, helping to connect students to high-value opportunities such as faculty-led research, competitive fellowships, etc., and managing and mitigating issues that negatively impact student success, including identification of and proactive outreach to at-risk students, and following up with students with warning grades and other referrals.

• Provide support for Accessibility Services. This includes supporting the provision of services to students who require accommodations under the provisions of ADA and other relevant legislation, rules and guidelines.

• Participate in, and support, the planning and delivery of various student programs that support student success, including orientation and onboarding programming for new freshmen and transfer students, First Year and Sophomore programming, etc., and often in collaboration with other campus partners.

• Complete other duties as assigned, including maintaining currency and competency in the areas of academic policies, advising theory and technology systems used to support student success at the College, supporting Admission events, assisting with the supervision of advising interns and peer advisors, and serving on other committees and work groups as needed across the institution.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in counseling, student development, higher education leadership, or related field, and 1-3 years of experience in advising and/or working with undergraduate students, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• An understanding of the developmental needs of undergraduate college students and counseling methods used to foster student success.

• Knowledge of college academic policies and other laws, regulations and policies that affect student success.

• The ability to understand and make use of student information and data in order to support student success programming.

• The ability to understand and establish good working relationships with students and colleagues of varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong project management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects.

• The ability to work independently and on a team.

• Proficiency in the use of various technological tools such as email, web searches, presentation software, etc.
