Plant Materials Program Manager

Percent of Time/Week:100% Service Schedule:Calendar Year

Position Description:

Serves the needs of existing and potential new native seed buyers and growers by producing certified, source-identified foundation seed, and provides stewardship of the Center's collection of plant materials; manages land and facilities associated with plant materials program and supervises student labor; promotes broader access to high quality, affordable plant materials, disseminating technical information and facilitating communication among members of the native seed supply chain; collaborates with educators to promote better understanding of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem; assists the director in program development and grant writing; and participates in the common activities of the Center including Friends group events, tours, and management of common land, facilities and equipment.

Education Requirements:

Master's degree or equivalent in plant ecology, botany, horticulture, agronomy or related field required. Bachelor's degree plus five years of program management experience may be substituted.

Required Qualifications:

At least two years of program management experience required. Experience establishing plants and maintaining them for research, production, or ornamental use; ability to learn safe operation of mechanical equipment; and demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills also required. Student experience will be considered.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in teaching, teacher training or curriculum development; experience writing and managing grants and/or contracts; and experience managing student employees or volunteers preferred.
