Title Position Reports To:

Director, Office of School and Community Partnerships

Chair, Department of Communication Science and Disorders

JOB SUMMARY:

Work with the Chair of the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Director of Office of School and Community Partnerships to coordinate all aspects of the clinical externship program in speech-language pathology. This position requires good judgment, strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to be a collaborative problem-solver. Work closely with Coordinator of Clinical Practice in Schools. Teach a weekly clinical seminar for students enrolled in externship courses, assign externship supervisors for each student and perform site visits regularly with written documentation of student performance with specific details of needs and successes. Develop partnerships with placement sites and work collaboratively with faculty to prepare students for success. Also be able to assist students prepare for externship interviews and proactively support students throughout their externship experiences. This is a 12-month position. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

It is imperative for the coordinator to support and position students to successfully complete their externship.

Identify students that are potential externship candidates.

Recommend and place students at externship sites.

Maintain regular contact with externship site supervisors by email, telephone and site visits. Conduct random site visits.

Formally document all communications in writing.

Teach weekly clinical seminar (approximately 2-hours) for students enrolled in externship courses.

Maintain database for externship sites, continually vetting for policy, practice, and quality. This includes updating and maintaining current affiliation agreements with sites on file.

Facilitate ongoing dialogue with faculty to maximize student preparedness.

Track all externship grades entered at the end of the semester and follow up with incomplete grades.

Participate in hiring of university supervisors; oversee university supervisors as needed.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Strong interpersonal and professional skills.

Ability to be organized and be attentive to detail and meet deadlines.

Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.

Proficient understanding of ASHA standards.

Understanding of NYSED certification requirements.

Strong skills in evaluating evidence for supervision practices.

Strong computer skills for using Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Google applications.

Participate in accreditation preparation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Commuting to externship sites.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master's Degree plus minimum 3 years job-related experience.

ASHA CCC-SLP and NYS Licensure in SLP.

TSHH/TSSLD Certification.

Preferred - graduate teaching experience.

Research experience and presentations a plus.
