Interpreter for the Deaf

Position Summary:
Provides quality sign language interpreting and realtime speech-to-text captioning services of lectures and discussions in classes, labs, and required academic activities for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a documented disability. Provides sign language interpreting and realtime speech-to-text captioning services for special requests for university events, as directed. Provides support for SSD office projects, as directed.

Required Qualifications:
RID Certification or VQAS level III / III or above. Extensive interpreting experience at a four-year postsecondary level. Proficiency in word processing and computer literacy. Ability to demonstrate 60+ wpm typing speed during interview process. Willing to participate in C-PrintTM training program in order to provide captioning services for university students.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in interpreting or a related field or equivalent related experience. Experience interpreting postsecondary science and engineering classes. C-PrintTM captioning experience at the postsecondary level.
