Job Description Summary

The Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Research Assistant/Associate Professor in thermochemical conversion of biomass, coal and natural gas for the production of fuels and chemicals. This is a 12-month non-tenure track position (100% research). This position is supported by the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. The successful candidate will work in the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts. Research responsibilities include developing and implementing a nationally recognized research program in thermochemical conversion of biomass, coal and natural gas for fuels and chemicals. The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding from sources such as United States Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, United States Department of Agriculture and Department of Defense to support his/her research programs, publish technical and refereed articles, and collaborate effectively with faculty and colleagues at Auburn University.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Biosystems, Chemical or closely related Engineering field from an accredited institution by the position start date. Experience in conducting research in thermochemical conversion of biomass, coal and natural gas and related engineering topics, documented evidence of ability to conduct research and managing large teams are essential. The successful candidate must possess the ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse cadre of faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of starting the appointment, and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: previous experience in biomass gasification and pyrolysis, Fisher-Tropsch synthesis, catalysis, demonstrated record of securing extramural funding for research programs, demonstrated a strong commitment and potential to excel in research in the area of chemical engineering, industry experience in biofuel and petroleum industries.
